Elements sits on the green edge of Bergen, Noord-Holland. One guesthouse, two bedrooms, an oak kitchen, a bathroom with a walk-in shower, and one wall that is almost entirely glass: eight metres of it, facing nothing but meadows, grazing cows and the line where the polder meets the dunes.
The village is five minutes away by bike. The sea is twenty, straight through the dunes. The quiet is immediate.

The architecture
Built around the view.
The whole house is arranged around one gesture: a glass façade, eight metres wide, that slides open onto the fields. Inside, the ceiling rises to double height under a thatched roof; outside, a reed-lined overhang shelters the terrace. The materials take their colours from the landscape they face: pale oak, corten steel, lime-washed walls.
The polder forms the fourth wall of the living room. Light moves across it all day; in the evening the glass holds the sunset, and after dark the room shrinks to lamplight and the sky takes over.
Open the doors and the boundary disappears entirely: from bed to grass in eight steps.
A day at Elements
The light does something different every hour.
You don’t need a programme here. The day takes its rhythm from outside, from first light over the fields to the stillness after sunset.

Mist on the meadows, the duvet still warm. You watch the first sun reach the garden without lifting your head from the pillow.

Coffee on the terrace, bikes out of the shed. Bergen for fresh bread and a gallery, or straight through the dunes to the sea.

The polder turns amber, the cows walk home in single file, and dinner takes longer because nobody is in a hurry.

The polder goes dark. The village falls quiet. Behind the glass, the fields slowly disappear into the night. Tomorrow it all begins again with first light.
The house
Small on purpose, generous where it counts.
Seventy square metres, considered down to the last centimetre: a double-height living space with the oak kitchen and dining nook, a master bedroom with an Auping bed and en-suite walk-in shower, and a second bedroom tucked under the thatch. Everything that counts.
Elements looks out over open polder: protected meadow land where cows graze in summer and geese land in winter. Beyond it, the tree line, and behind that, the dunes of Schoorl. Nothing between you and the horizon but grass and sky.
Fog at dawn, clear blue at midday, gold towards evening. The view is never the same twice.

The second bedroom sleeps two under the sloping thatch: the kind of room children claim instantly. Outside there’s a lawn made for football, an in-ground trampoline, a swing, and a beach twenty minutes away. A cot, toddler bed and high chair are ready and waiting.
